ROME (AP) — Paulo Dybala scored his first hat trick for Roma as the home team defeated Torino 3-2 in Serie A on Monday.
On the day Chris Smalling started for Roma for the first time since September, Dybala received all the praise.
It was Dybala's first club hat-trick since October 2018, when he was at Juventus.
Roma remained in 6th place, but Fiorentina defeated Lazio 2-1 to move up to 7th place.
Lazio fell to 8th place, while Torino remained in 10th place.
Dybala opened the scoring from the penalty spot three minutes before half-time, and two minutes later Duvan Zapata headed home a corner kick from the left to equalize.
Dybala scored his second goal 58 minutes later with a 30-yard shot past goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic.
The Argentine striker capped off a fantastic performance by playing a superb one-two with substitute Romelo Lukaku and scoring from a tight angle.
Smalling's substitute Dean Huisen conceded an own goal in the end.
Fiorentina then missed a penalty against Lazio in Florence, hitting a tree four times, but still won on goal difference.
Lazio took the lead seconds before half-time when Luis Alberto stopped a flowing move by receiving a pass from Mateo Guendus and firing a low shot into the net.
Fiorentina equalized 16 minutes into the second half with 19-year-old Michael Kayode's first goal of the season.
Nicolas Gonzalez hit a penalty against the post midway through the second half, but the hosts took the lead a minute later. Lazio keeper Ivan Provedel could only parry Andrea Belotti's shot, and Giacomo Bonaventura followed up to give Fiorentina the lead.
