ROCK ISLAND, IL – It’s the time of year to make New Year’s resolutions, health goals, and more – and our latest Transformation Tuesday series, “A Guide to Lifestyle Transformation,” is designed to help you make those goals a reality.
According to Forbes Health's 2024 New Year's Resolution Poll, nearly half of people making resolutions are focused on improving their fitness levels. Improving your financial situation, mental health, and weight loss also rank high, but most resolutions last just under four months before people give up. The Lifestyle Transformation series hopes to increase that number among U.S. Army Sustainment Command personnel.
“A quote from Martin Luther King Jr. sums it up,” says Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Wellness Branch Chair, Resilience and Readiness (R2), Certified Master Resilience Trainer, and Health and Wellness Branch Chair. Linda Ottman, who is also a life coach, explained. “You don't have to look at the whole staircase, just take the first step.” This series provides best practices and processes to help anyone achieve their personal goals, no matter what they are. . Goals may include losing weight, eating healthier, sleeping better, or dealing with stress. ”
The series is divided into six virtual classes every Tuesday starting January 23rd. Each session will be recorded for his ASC soldiers and civilians who cannot attend live.
“It is designed to help employees achieve their personal goals and maintain optimal health by implementing lifestyle changes,” Ottman said. “We guide participants with tools and strategies to create the most effective lifestyle changes. Everyone has something in their life they would like to change or improve. Because everyone can benefit from the topics covered in this series, we need a reminder of the basic steps to take when life gets frustrating or overwhelming.”
Having resources to stay happy and healthy helps employees stay motivated to support ASC's mission of keeping Soldiers on the ground ready. ASC's global workforce is dedicated to providing soldiers with what they need, when and where they need it. To reach more of his ASC employees and expand the topic, the R2 team created Transformation Tuesday classes to help both employees and the mission.
“The idea for this series came from the question of how to reach large numbers of people at once,” says Nick Osterhaus, G1 R2 Resilience Chapter Director, Master Resilience Trainer and Lifestyle Coach. states. “Typically, our health coaching classes are limited to 10 people per series. After talking with our team, we decided to make this series more of a 'how-to' series. ”
“It's up to the participants to make lifestyle changes. Linda and I just teach them how to make lifestyle changes,” Osterhaus said. To include the lifestyle changes they want in our handouts. ”
The Guide to Lifestyle Transformation is part of the R2 team's goal to maintain a responsive and resilient workforce within the ASC.
“The R2 program directly enhances the readiness of ASC's global workforce and supports the continued improvement and development of the command's resiliency program,” Ottman said. “We support a variety of initiatives, including employee engagement, health, safety, and well-being. We offer a variety of classes and initiatives. We emphasize the importance of being mindful. Look at yourself and practice work-life balance.”
A happier and healthier workforce can keep the mission at the forefront of both soldiers' and civilians' minds, rather than extra stressors that impact mental and physical health.
“We are in our fourth year of Transformation Tuesdays,” Osterhaus said. “The feedback we have received has been fantastic. Hearing that these presentations we are delivering to our employees are showing the impact of changing people's lives and benefiting the work environment is a great way for us to Hearing your appreciation for what we offer makes our department work harder to offer these types of classes. ”
“Participants often share the positive impact the series has had on them personally,” Ottman agreed. “These comments prove that our work not only makes a difference for our participants, but also has a ripple effect on families, colleagues, units and teams within our global command. I am.”
In fact, the topics for the Lifestyle Transformation Series were selected based on feedback from ASC employees.
“As we planned this six-week series, we incorporated feedback from participants to present what employees want to see and what they will get,” Osterhaus said.
“We analyze data collected from our workforce, including community strengths and theme assessments, the Defense Culture Survey, the Federal Employee Perspective Survey, various R2 programs and individual rank surveys,” Ottman said. He added that the company also focuses on employee trends and demands. When developing a new class series. Always focused on health education and prevention topics.
The Lifestyle Changes series may be new, but some of the topics may be familiar.
Osterhaus says, “This lifestyle transformation series works in conjunction with most of the resilience classes we offer. Being able to adapt to change makes us more resilient people. When this happens, we'll give you the tools to help you recover.” We already have tools to help fight it. ”
Ottman agreed and said he looks forward to the series' continued impact.
“I enjoy sharing topics related to education and prevention with employees. I find it rewarding when participants have an “aha'' moment during class. You can see that the person resonates with the information presented and is willing to move forward and make meaningful changes in their life. ”
