The 125th Finance Battalion, 8th Military Police Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command held a relinquishment ceremony March 28, 2024, at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Maj. Craig A. Rodland, retired sergeant major of the 125th Finance Battalion, relinquished his duties to the force commander, Master Sgt. Lorena M. Cermeno.
“It has been a true honor to serve the Soldiers of the 125th Finance Battalion and the USARHAW (U.S. Army Hawaii) community,” Rodland said.
During his tenure, he saw the 125th Finance Battalion convert from a company to a battalion in June 2022 as a result of the Army's force design update. Rodland also saw the battalion reorganized from under the 25th Infantry Division to the 8th Theater Sustainment Command, allowing for more efficient command and control across the formation.
“With all the changes we've made recently, but in the past, it's time to perfect our trade and become the best financial BN (battalion) in the Corps,” Roland said.
Relinquishment of responsibility is a time-honored tradition that accompanies a change of responsibility and is symbolized by the battalion's colors, and the passing of command responsibilities to the next command sergeant major. In the case of a relinquishment of responsibility, responsibility falls to the most senior noncommissioned officer in the formation for the time being, as the next command sergeant major has not yet arrived.
“Looking at the 125th's accomplishments over the past several months, it is clear that CSM Roland has contributed to our team's success,” said Lt. Col. Leviticus D. Pope, 125th Finance Battalion commander.
The Pope also thanked Rodland's wife, Tiffany Rodland, for all her support as the battalion's Soldier and Family Readiness Group Leader.
“Tiffany has always demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and initiative in guiding our team, planning successful events, and providing creative ideas,” Pope said.
Roland's next position was Treasury Corps Regimental Sergeant Major. Before leaving the battlefield, he promised to meet his former battalion soon.
“To the Soldiers of the 125th Finance Battalion, you are in great spirits today. Thank you for your hard work and resilience during all these changes,” Roland said. “I look forward to seeing you again soon!”
