FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The Department of Justice announced that a 61-year-old Porterville man has pleaded guilty to three counts of introducing counterfeit branded drugs into interstate commerce.
According to officials, Fu Tiu was the president and CEO of Golden Sunrise Pharmaceutical Co. and Golden Sunrise Nutraceutical Co., Ltd. (collectively “Golden Sunrise”). That's what it means. Officials said Tiu mailed the products to various medical practitioners, government officials and other individuals in California and abroad.

Officials said Tiu falsely claimed the product was the first dietary supplement in the United States to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a treatment for the coronavirus. The drug is not FDA-approved, and Golden Sunrise products have never been approved by the FDA for any purpose, officials said.
Tieu is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12, and faces up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine on each of the three charges.
