(BIVN) – Darby, Waimea’s miniature horse, is one of the “Pet Partners Pet of the Year” nominees.
Darby recently turned heads during a Valentine's Day visit to Queen's North Hawaii Community Hospital and is said to be the first Hawaiian pet to be nominated for a national award.
Pet Partners Pet of the Year is a six-week fundraising competition. From a news release from Pet Partners:
Darby is one of about 50 pets nominated across the country and is in its final days as a finalist in a six-week fundraising competition for the national title. The candidate who raises the most money for Pet Her Partner by March 18th will be named Pet of the Year. Derby is in fierce competition with mainland teams. Every dollar donated to Pet Partners in Darby's name is a vote, and a vote for Darby is a vote for Hawaii.
Pet Partners is the nation's leading organization for registering therapy animals for animal-assisted interventions. Funds raised as part of the Pet of the Year contest support Pet Partners' therapy animal programs. Through therapy animal visits, this program brings unconditional love, happiness, and healing to millions of seniors, patients, veterans, children, and others in need.
