(KRON) — A Daly City man has been found guilty of robbery, vandalism and attempted grand larceny after breaking into the offices of a San Francisco tech company and stealing several valuable laptops, San Francisco said. State Attorney Brooke Jenkins made the announcement.
According to evidence presented at trial, 29-year-old Jairim Jackson broke into Aurora Innovation Co. on Sunday, October 15 at approximately 5:15 p.m. Aurora is a technology company focused on autonomous driving, with offices at 85 Bruxome Street.
According to a press release from the prosecutor's office, Jackson ransacked each floor of the building. Surveillance cameras captured him taking multiple laptops and other devices and placing them in a stolen backpack.
Prosecutors said Jackson broke at least four doors during the robbery. He caused about $4,000 in damage and the laptops he stole cost him about $1,000 each.
A security guard spotted Jackson on live video and called police. Mr. Jackson tried to hide by hiding behind a planter box on the fifth floor, but he was caught, arrested, and ultimately convicted.
“I would like to thank the jury for their hard work in this case,” said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. “The jury's verdict in this case ensures accountability and sends a message that commercial robbery will not be tolerated. Proliferating burglaries have a devastating impact on small businesses and neighborhoods, leading to closures. It's possible. We must do everything we can to protect our businesses and neighborhoods.”
Jackson faces four years in prison for robbery.
