ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) – Jeremy Skinner was devastated after losing the four pets he considered like his own children — huskies Lek, Cocoa and Ash, and Siamese cat Luna — in a house fire. It is.
“I really wish I could have been here and made sure all the babies got out,” he says. “My dog was my world, not my house or any other possessions or valuables.”
But on Monday, while at work, Skinner received a call from a neighbor saying his house was on fire.
“I rushed out the door and almost destroyed the engine by the time I got here,” he said.
The house was completely destroyed in the fire, and attempts to save the pet by performing CPR were unsuccessful.
“All I feel is the pain of losing the animals,” Skinner said. “I like to take these out before work, and looking at them when I get home is the best part of my day.”
The fire is still under investigation, but Skinner said it appears to have been an electrical problem.
“Behind the sofa in the living room was a faulty wall wiring, not an electrical outlet, that we couldn't see without tearing down the wall,” he says.
Skinner now has no home or pets, but he can get back on his feet with financial help. Now he has to stay at his friend's house.
The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help locate the apartment, belongings and pet graves.
“If we could rebuild this house, we would need a lot of money. The economy is really tough right now,” Skinner said.
