Hauser's Jewelers expands to Williamsburg
Hauser's Jewelers, known on the Peninsula for more than 100 years, is opening a store in Williamsburg. The new store is scheduled to open in May on Jamestown Road, adjacent to La Tienda.
Amy Hart and her husband Brad own the facility, which also has a location in Newport News' City Center. Hart's great-grandfather started Hauser's Jewelers as a watch manufacturing business in her 1898. Currently, Hauser's Jewelers is a full-service jewelry store with its own line. Hart is a jewelry designer and has created several collections for the business.
“As proud fifth-generation Stewards, we can't wait to serve the Williamsburg community and partner with other Williamsburg businesses to provide a complete experience for our customers,” said Hart. Stated.
The Williamsburg store is the second store.
“We've been considering a second location in Williamsburg for years, but it had to be the perfect location and it took us a while to find it,” she said.
Hauser's Jewelers is now open at 1325 Jamestown Road, with a grand opening scheduled for Mother's Day weekend, May 11th and 12th. Mr Hart said: “It will be a fun weekend full of amazing trunk shows and surprises by the esteemed Italian designer Roberto Coin.''
Ms. Hart and her husband look forward to continuing their family tradition and serving more customers in Greater Williamsburg.

Construction begins on new Wawa store
Construction began in early March on a new Wawa convenience store along Monticello Avenue across from Settlers Market. The convenience store and gas station, located at 4007 Ironbound Road, features a 5,911-square-foot building with six filling islands. Mark Rinaldi of Bush Construction Corp. is managing project development.
James City County completed approval for the project in September 2023. His new Wawa will be his fourth location in Greater Williamsburg. There's also a Wawa convenience store on Merrimack Trail, and his two stores on Richmond Road, one near William & Mary and the other in his 2021 opening in Lightfoot .
Two stores in Merchants Square are permanently closed.
Two stores in Merchants Square, Duke of Gloucester Street, closed at the end of March. The bakery shop Blackbird Bakery announced on March 31st that it will close its doors after more than 10 years in business. Meanwhile, nearby Italian restaurant La Piazza, located in the former space occupied by The Trellis, has also closed.
“Unfortunately, earlier this month we made the difficult decision to permanently close our restaurant,” La Piazza shared on social media on March 26. Thank you very much for your support and encouragement. It is a great joy to serve the Williamsburg community, and we embrace the wonderful memories we have made together. ”
Both establishments are owned by restaurateur and chef David Everett. He is also the owner of his Blue Talon Bistro and his DoG Street Pub, both of which remain open today. Everett also owned Hair of the DoG Bottle Shop behind the DoG Street Pub in Merchants Square, which closed in 2020. Saladworks currently occupies that space.
A new grocery store is opening soon in Surrey
Surrey Marketplace will soon open, marking the first time since 1999 that Surrey will have its own grocery store. The store, which has been under construction since 2018, will open in an old hardware store along Route 31. early this summer.
“This project is expected to generate a total capital investment of $2 million, while creating 16 to 20 permanent full-time equivalent jobs,” Lenny Chapline with the Surry County Economic Development Authority said in a news release. Stated. “The county is well-positioned to attract more cottage and hospitality-related businesses. It’s a very exciting time to be in Surry County.”
Surry County is partnering with Obici Healthcare Foundation as well as local farmers and other organizations on this project. The new store will feature fresh produce, freshly cut meats, dairy and deli options, frozen foods and other items.

• Allure Creperie & Cafe closed its Williamsburg Premium Outlets location on April 8th. The shop specialized in European-style dishes such as crepes, gourmet paninis, and coffee. According to social media posts, Allure's owners are planning to relocate, but the new space has not yet been announced.
• Business networking organization NOW has been disbanded. Bob Rodriguez, co-founder of NOW (short for Networking Over Williamsburg), said in a March 28 announcement that after six years, he is taking the next step. I am starting a new business and plan to retire. ”
