PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Fire broke through the house A fire broke out at Pacific Market in Northeast Portland early Tuesday morning, and while authorities say no one was injured, the community is feeling a huge loss.
After more than 30 years of shopping at this Asian hypermarket, all that's left is ashes.
“We are very sorry to hear about the fire at the supermarket,” said Thao Thu, president of the Oregon Vietnamese Community. “I have long had ties to the area. I have lived in Portland since July 1991.”
On Thursday, Portland firefighters returned to the strip mall to extinguish hot spots.
“We cover hot products by hiding them under other objects to prevent water flow from penetrating them,” said Rick Graves with Portland Fire Rescue.
The community hopes Pacific Market will open its doors again, but it's unclear when that will be.
“It's a great feeling to be able to go into this Asian market and be in this community that is so thriving, where multiple languages are spoken and where you have access to these food sources that you only see during the holidays,” Graves said. Told.
“When we first came to Portland to resettle in the United States, we lived in Halsey's Apartment Square, and we could walk to the store.
