LARIMAR COUNTY, Colo. — Two northern Colorado veterinarians are accused of charging a pet crematorium for cremation services that were not provided when “common cremation” was requested and for burying animals in mass graves. , is suing a pet crematorium.
Precious Memories Pet Cemetery & Crematory, Inc. had a contract with Edwards Veterinary Care for cremation services since July 2013. Western Skies started contacting Precious Memories in October 2019.
Both men are currently no longer working with the crematorium and are suing the crematorium and about 50 unidentified associates who may have worked for the business.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in Larimer County District Court, alleges that Fort Collins-based Precious Memories advertised pet burial and cremation services on its website, that all cremations are private, and for another reason. The claim was made that unless otherwise known, the remains would be returned to the clinic or the owner. Arrangements were made.
According to the complaint, the pet cremation standards define “individual cremation” as cremation of only one pet. The lawsuit alleges that Precious Moments actually provided “separate” cremations. That is when multiple pets are placed in the cremation chamber and cremated at the same time with some distance between them.
The lawsuit also accuses Precious Memories of disposing of animals in landfills and burying animals in mass graves when mass cremation was required.
Both veterinarians also allege in the lawsuit that they were charged for claw and foot impressions that were not provided to the designated animals. According to the complaint, the alleged fraud was discovered around September 2022. The companies say the fraud has affected their business and reputation and are seeking financial damages through the lawsuit.
9NEWS reached out to the owner of the pet crematorium but did not receive a response.
The Larimer County Sheriff's Office said it was not aware of any complaints about the business and a preliminary investigation found no criminal charges related to the Precious Memories address.
