The Clothing Project is a program that began in Cape Cod, Massachusetts in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women.
Clothesline exhibit at Indiana Veterans Health brings awareness to military sexual trauma, sexual assault/abuse, intimate partner, and other forms of interpersonal violence. all sex.
Approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 50 men tell VA health care providers that they have experienced MST. Due to the large number of men in the military, one-third of MST survivors are male veterans. Transgender veterans report MST three times more often than other veterans.
To “break the silence” that surrounds these experiences, veterans design shirts that reflect their experiences of interpersonal violence and recovery. The shirts will be hung side by side on a drying display in the atrium of the Richard L. Rudebusch VA Medical Center for the month of April 2024.
To participate in the clothing project, veterans and staff can design a shirt for display at:

MST can affect a person's physical and mental health even after many years. Recovery is possible and free services are available at VA. Within the Department of Veterans Affairs, we want to help break the silence around military sexual trauma (MST) and intimate partner violence (IPV).
