AHMEDABAD: Experts from Murujibhai Patel Urology Hospital (MPUH) organized an awareness seminar on Saturday to commemorate World Kidney Day. At the Ahmedabad Management Association (AMA), experts including Dr Ravindra Sabnis, Head of Urology, Dr Abhijit Patil, Urologist and Transplant Surgeon, interacted with patients and members of the public. “Over the past 10 years, there has been an increase in chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients seen in Gujarat and in our hospitals. In some cases, genetic and environmental factors play a role, but in most cases, CKD is associated with lifestyle diseases such as hypertension and diabetes,” said Dr. Sabnis. He added that MPUH is seeing a steady increase in kidney transplants. “You have to understand that only 10% of patients with CKD get a kidney. The majority of patients are on regular dialysis. Dr. Sabnis added.
