Playmaker Ciaran Frawley will wear the full-back jersey in place of injured Hugo Keenan for Ireland vs Wales on Saturday.
The 27-year-old picked up a knee problem in the 36-0 win over Italy and looked doubtful in that game.
Ireland are not too worried about Keenan's injury, but he has not trained in the last two weeks and will miss the Six Nations match against Wales.
update
Coach Simon Easterby gave an update on his condition earlier this week, saying:
“Hugo has played a very important role in this group since his debut a few years ago, so it is important to give him the opportunity to prove his suitability.
“But we're also very excited about the opportunities that could be available if he's not available.”
Keenan's absence therefore opens the door for Frawley to join Calvin Nash and James Rowe in the back three.
Although he was preferred over the likes of Jacob Stockdale and Jordan Larmour, head coach Andy Farrell decided to move Jack Crowley back to where the fly-half finished against Italy.
The only change to the backline that started against France was that Jamison Gibson-Park and Bundy Aki were both rested for matchday two.
The pack remains unchanged from the eight forwards from the opening game, but Farrell will be pleased to have both captain Peter O'Mahony and prop Tadhg Furlong back.
Kaylan Doris also overcame injury issues to take up a back row spot, moving into his normal No. 8 position.
Meanwhile, there is a new name on the bench in Oli Jaeger, who has just signed for Munster in November 2023 after spending several years with the Crusaders.
Jager will be replaced as tighthead, with Ronan Kelleher and Cian Healy covering the remaining two spots in the front row.
With lock James Ryan back on the bench and other impact options Ryan Baird, Jack Connan, Conor Murray and Stuart McCloskey, Farrell is back in the 6-2 split.
