This week, I received a request from a reader to review Champps, formerly the Fox & Hound in Southaven. I tried Fox & Hound about 2 years ago and remember loving the place. Apparently this business has new owners or new management and a new name. We love hearing from our readers, so the Bat family was happy to give Champ a try.
When I looked at the menu, I saw the list of burgers and it came from Hello. But we also have a large selection of American food, with everything from appetizers like nachos and wings to burgers, chicken sandwiches, and pizza for lunch and dinner. You can see that Champs caters to the needs of after-work customers and weekend sports customers. They have happy hour from 3pm to 6pm, and the menu has some very nice appetizers, as well as a beer menu offering a wide selection of craft beers and craft cocktails.
I launched Livewire from Arkham to join Champps. Last time I was in this place, I was with Bane. I don't remember what I ordered, but I do remember that it was delicious. I thought Livewire would order the Original Philadelphia Cheesesteak, but she threw me a curveball and opted for the Classic Club Sandwich ($15.75). Club sandwiches are always a safe and good choice because you know what you are eating. The Club at Champs has sliced turkey, ham and applewood bacon, topped with provolone and cheddar cheese, tomato and garlic aioli on toasted sourdough. The supervillain thought it was a good sandwich, but complained about it not having much meat in it. “It was good,” she said. “My only issue was that it only had two slices of ham and turkey, and very little bacon. The rest was lettuce and tomato. Both lettuce and tomato were fresh and tasty. Aio. I liked the resources and the bread was good, but at $15 I would have liked more meat.'' Livewire also liked the waffle fries, but like many restaurants today, you don't have to salt them yourself. needed to be added. “No one is salting anymore,” Livewire said. “Restaurants probably don't want to be accused of causing diabetes or other health problems. And I understand that.” Livewire would have given Champs a 4 POW rating, but they Because it's skimpy on meat and expensive for a sandwich, I'm subtracting half a star and giving it 3 1/2 POW instead. “It was a decent lunch,” she said. “But I'm not going to lunch. You can go to Jason's Deli and get a club for $11. But I'd like to try happy hour.”
Champs might win the award for the most creative burger combo I've ever seen. I ordered the Double Bacon Burger Grilled Cheese ($17.50). I don't know if it's a grilled cheese or a burger with lots of cheese and bread. Either way, I liked it. Crumbled ground beef topped with applewood bacon (what exactly is applewood bacon?), American and provolone cheeses, white cheese sauce, and Thousand Island dressing, served on Parmesan sourdough bread. Masu. I left the caramelized onions and pickles.
This is a large grilled cheese. It was so big that I could barely bring my mouth close enough to take a bite. As I said, this is an interesting combo. It's definitely a grilled cheese and burger hybrid. Smashburgers aren't my thing, but the ground meat was tasty and not a formed patty. I thought the white cheese sauce gave it a nice flavor, but the Thousand Island dressing drowned it out a bit. The bread is delicious, but the quantity is large. To be exact, he has three slices. All in all, it was a good grilled cheese (or is it a grilled cheese cheeseburger?) that I would definitely order again. I also liked that Champs had waffle fries. I give the Champion 4 1/2 POW for the Double Bacon Burger Grilled Cheese.
I'm glad I tried Champs. That was a good suggestion. I don't know what prompted the name change, but the atmosphere inside the store remains the same. It's a place worth hanging out after work, playing pool or enjoying happy hour with appetizers while watching the game on TV. In total, to the Champs he gives four prisoners.
