BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Bangor Area Commerce recognized businesses and individuals Friday night at the Cross Insurance Center.
This year's annual awards dinner drew approximately 800 people to celebrate the community.
This year's dinner was space-themed in preparation for the upcoming solar eclipse.
The event begins with a social hour, followed by a dinner provided by volunteers while the presentations continue.
Diverse companies from the region win awards in different categories and receive symbolic trophies.
Deb Newman, president of the Bangor Area Chamber of Commerce, said: “We're going to have some great people receiving Bunyan tonight. Receiving Paul Bunyan's statue at Bunyan is kind of a big deal in this town, and it's great for these people. There is no doubt that this is a coveted award.”
ERA Dawson Bradford Relators has been named Large Employer of the Year, CEO Julie Dawson Williams said: It means a lot to have a chamber like this and to be recognized by our community like this. ”
Elizabeth Sutherland received the highest honor, the Norbert X. Dowd Award.
Tiller & Rye was named Small Business of the Year and the Bangor Area YMCA was named Nonprofit Organization of the Year.
Global Secure Shipping won the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award, and Waterfront Concerts won the Spirit of the Region Arts and Culture Award.
Individual Jason Clay was named Volunteer of the Year and David Dunning received the Sarah Dubay Professional Service Award.
