new tax service
Tamika Jernigan is celebrating the grand opening of Sister 2 Sister Tax Services at 319 W. Marshall Ave. on Jan. 20 from noon to 2 p.m.
She entered the tax services industry working virtually at Legend Tax Services in Atlanta, Georgia. Her now late husband Duane Jernigan saw her success and encouraged her to open her own business.
When he and his girlfriend's son-in-law, Keyan Jernigan, became murder victims this summer, they had a plan in place and were working towards it. They encouraged her and supported her, so she decided to go ahead with her plan.
She said her husband invested in her training for the profession and later supported her in her work.
“This is what we had planned,” Jernigan said.
The grand opening will feature swag bags, raffles and food.
Sister 2 Sister Tax Services is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday during tax season, January through April. Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., January through February. Reservations are required for Saturdays from March to May.
“We're mobile, we're in the office,” Jernigan said, explaining that customers can use the company's secure apps and email for mobile services.
“We try to serve everyone,” she said.

Chicken Salad Chick, based in Atlanta, Georgia, plans to expand into Longview and Tyler over the next five years.
The business, which started as a home-based venture in Auburn, Alabama in 2008, now has 225 locations in 18 states. This fast-casual restaurant focuses on chicken salad and offers more than a dozen flavors along with soups, other types of sandwiches, and desserts.
Franchisees Jack and Mona Gabriel, who got their start with a Nothing Bundt Cake franchise, already have one Chicken Salad Chick location in Tyler.
“Based on the results of the first store and consistent with Chicken Salad Chick's brand purpose, the Gabriels have signed on for five additional stores in the communities of Longview, Greenville and Tyler,” the company said in a statement. Specific locations within these cities have not been determined, and no specific timeline has been given, other than that they will open within the next five years.
The East Texas expansion is part of the company's continued growth, with three other multi-unit franchise agreements also in place in Texas. This brings the total number of new restaurants opening in Texas over the next five years to 21.
