The most significant impact of attacks on medical facilities is the documented loss of life and injuries. A total of 123 medical staff lost their lives in recorded attacks on medical facilities, according to SAMS's 'A High Price to Pay' report. Between 2013 and 2021, SAMS recorded 385 attacks against healthcare workers, resulting in 152 deaths. Remarkably, 61 of these victims were dedicated employees of SAMS. In addition to the SAMS data, an investigation by Physicians for Human Rights revealed that at least 948 medical professionals were killed in Syria between 2011 and March 2023. This report serves as a memorial to the lives of heroes who sacrificed themselves to help others.
The booklet forms a key element of the broader 'Humanitarian Footprint' initiative led by SAMS, which aims to highlight the issue of violence against health workers in the Syrian conflict. These pages tell the heartbreaking stories of 11 of his 61 medical workers who lost their lives during selfless acts of service at his SAMS support facilities in Syria between 2013 and 2021. is recorded.
In addition to this booklet, the campaign features visual testimonies from the families of the eight healthcare workers who lost their lives, as well as an analytical report documenting only the attacks on healthcare recorded by SAMS. Together, these elements aim to convey the magnitude of the challenges faced by health workers in the Syrian conflict. In this report, we pay tribute to these health care workers and recognize that they made the ultimate sacrifice for the people they served.
