Texas Tech baseball pitcher Brady Trombello was in stable condition at a Lubbock hospital Wednesday night after undergoing surgery after being transported by ambulance from Dan Law Field/Rip Griffin Park on Monday night. announced by the athletics club.
Tech Athletics released a statement late Wednesday announcing a “medical emergency” involving Trombello occurred at Tech Stadium on Monday afternoon.
“Texas Tech's sports medicine and coaching staff provided immediate care and assisted in transporting Trombello by ambulance to University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery Monday night,” Tech's statement said. “As of Wednesday night, Trombello is recovering and in stable condition.
“Texas Tech Athletics will provide updates as they become available, but we ask the public to respect the Trombello family's privacy as they continue their recovery.”
Technical coach Tim Tadlock's radio show scheduled for Monday night at a local restaurant has been postponed.
Earlier Wednesday, two Tech Athletics spokespeople declined to comment on Trombello's situation. Teck's statement did not elaborate on the nature or circumstances of the medical emergency. A UMC spokesperson also declined to provide patient information.
An email sent to the address listed for Trombello's father did not receive a response within hours.
Trombello made his collegiate debut at Arlington on February 20, starting in the Texas-Arlington game and pitching four scoreless innings. Starting pitcher Trombello had four strikeouts and no walks, and the Red Raiders won 13-1 at Globe Life Field.
Trombello is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hander from Ridgefield, Washington. He attended Prairie High School, which produced two longtime former major league players, pitcher Alan Embry and first baseman Richie Sexson.
