In 2023, Ark Valley Humane Society will offer proprietary feline spay/neuter programs, pit bull spay/neuter programs, low-income spay/neuter programs for other breeds, and trap-neuter programs. We supported the spaying/neutering of 264 local pets through the return of pets. Program for stray cats.
Our goal for 2024 is to help solve our nation's pet surplus crisis by helping more local pets get fixed to prevent the birth of unwanted animals.
Here in Chaffee County, our wonderful community is incredibly supportive and committed to helping healthy, adoptable animals achieve positive outcomes. I'm lucky that I don't have to. However, many shelters across the country continue to struggle because they lack the time, space, and resources to care for the animals. Although they work to save as many pets as possible, euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals occurs because adoptions cannot keep up with the number of animals being adopted.
The more pets we can help spay and neuter, the more we can stop this problem. You can help your community by fixing up your pet now.
By reducing the number of unwanted trash entering shelters, we can further help with the pet overpopulation crisis by removing animals from overcrowded shelters when space allows. In 2023, we were able to adopt out 125 additional pets: 74 cats and 51 dogs. Adoption programs like ours provide relief to overcrowded shelters by adopting animals in need, freeing up space in the original shelter's kennels and allowing them to offer more animals. Without the success of our spay/neuter program here in Chaffee County, we would not have been able to adopt these additional pets.
