WASHINGTON — Actress Ashley Park revealed on Instagram Friday that she is recovering after suffering from tonsillitis that developed into “severe septic shock” that affected several organs.
The 'Emily in Paris' star said she suffered a major health crisis while on vacation between December and New Years, which resulted in her spending a week in intensive care.
“Despite what I was initially told, I am grateful that my health has improved,” Park wrote in the post, along with photos and videos from her hospital stay.
According to the Sepsis Alliance, septic shock is the most severe form of sepsis, and “septic shock patients are often referred to as the 'sickest patients in the hospital.'” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains that sepsis is the body's extreme response to an infection that, without timely treatment, can rapidly lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.
In her post, Park thanked the medical staff who treated her, her family, and most importantly her boyfriend and Emily in Paris castmate Paul Forman for being by her side as she went through this terrifying ordeal. He expressed his gratitude.
“While we were alone on the other side of the world, you allayed my fears, the ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the intensive care unit, the terrifying ER, countless scans and tests and injections, the excruciating You have supported me through pain and so much turmoil, so far from what we know,” she wrote.
Park added that she was hesitant to talk about what was going on because she was “still recovering” but now knows that the worst has passed and she is safe.
The Tony Award nominee played the role of Gretchen Wieners in the Broadway musical “Mean Girls” and has a cameo in a recently released musical film.
