A new resource is launching in central Arkansas that can make a difference for the region's furry friends and pet parents.
LITTLE ROCK, AR — Many of us consider our pets to be family members, and when we have a health concern about a pet, we take immediate action.
Now, a new resource for transporting your four-legged friends on four wheels is launching in central Arkansas.
“We wanted to provide something that was not only unique to our community, but also helpful to the surrounding community as a whole, and that would provide an opportunity to provide treatment to pets that really need it. ,” said Stephanie Dungey of OutWest Veterinary Emergency. Nursing care service manager.
If it's an emergency and you don't have a way to get your pet to the vet, Out West Veterinary Urgent Care's new pet ambulance will get you there in no time.
“Initially, we're thinking it might be an hour or two, maybe 60 miles away, but I definitely think it depends,” said Outwest Medical Services Manager Ashley Heatherly. said.
Out West's Heatherly and Dungey are both part of the team behind the ambulance.
The vehicle is equipped with emergency medical equipment.
Dungey said he hopes this will strengthen relationships with area veterinary hospitals, as the state continues to have a shortage of veterinarians.
“The way I see it, we really are an industry, we're one team. And the more open relationships and working conditions we have between hospitals, the more we'll probably attract physicians who want to shift in this kind of environment. 'I think it's true,''' Dungey said.
Dr. Scott Koenig of Bryant Animal Family Practice said he looks forward to offering this resource to his clients.
“None of the things you might need can be provided to an owner who is trying to travel 20 minutes and bite their nails at the same time, because they're stressed out. It's a great service to have them cared for. ,” Dr. Koenig said.
“This is a completely new service for our state and we don't have anyone to model it after. This is really going to be a service that we create and carve out ourselves as we get started,” she said. Ta.
The service was officially launched on Monday, March 25, and will be used to transport animals from one hospital to another, or from home to hospital and back again.
At this time, OutWest expects its pet transport units to be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
