Katie Britt uses example of decades-old Mexican rape as Republican attack on Biden border policies
Delivering their party's response to President Joe Biden's State of the Union address, Republican senators used harrowing accounts of the sexual abuse of young women to attack the president's border policies, but rape incidents have left the U.S. That didn't happen during the Biden administration. Weather forecast leaves Maine's towering landmark surrounded by crime scene tape
SKOWEGAN, Maine (AP) – Crime scene tape surrounds the Skowhegan Indians, a local Maine landmark, after an attack by Mother Nature. The towering wooden sculpture is missing part of its face and arms, as well as its spear. The damage is believed to be caused by rough weather and strong winds. The 19-meter (62-foot) tall sculpture depicts a Wabanaki fisherman and was completed by artist Bernard Lenglet in 1969. Before the damage, fishermen held a spear in one hand and a fishing weir or trap in the other. His face was damaged several months ago, and a windstorm on February 28-29 blew off part of the sculpture's arm and the spear it was carrying.

New Jersey Court of Appeals rejects high school's request to overturn called game loss
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – A New Jersey court has rejected the appeal of a high school that lost a state basketball tournament game when a referee accidentally overturned a buzzer-beating basket. The state Appellate Division ruled late Friday denying a petition by Manasquan school officials stemming from a loss to Camden earlier in the week. The decision likely means the state title game between Camden and Newark, scheduled for Saturday, can be played. Manasquan was originally declared the winner against Camden in Tuesday's game. However, the referees debated the final shot and ultimately disallowed it, giving Camden the victory. A video review of the final seconds clearly showed that the shot was in the air and in the basket by the time the buzzer sounded.

Pentagon investigation found no signs of extraterrestrial life in UFO sightings reported decades ago
WASHINGTON (AP) – A new Pentagon study examining reported UFO sightings over the past century has found no evidence of the existence of aliens or extraterrestrial intelligence. This conclusion is consistent with the U.S. government's past efforts to assess the accuracy of claims that have captured the public's attention for decades. The Department of Defense's All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office study analyzed U.S. government investigations of reported sightings of unidentified anomalous phenomena, commonly known as UFOs, since 1945. No evidence was found that any of these claims were actually signs of extraterrestrial life, or that the U.S. government and private companies were reverse engineering extraterrestrial technology and hiding it.
