Nothing to sniff at: Bill would help fund the retirement of Ohio's drug-detection K9s under legal cannabis
WHITEHALL, Ohio (AP) – Two Ohio lawmakers are proposing a bill that would ease the financial burden on law enforcement agencies that have to replace marijuana-sniffing dogs. That's because Ohio voters approved a plan to legalize recreational marijuana use in November. And replacing a trained K9 makes him one of the unintended consequences. The bill would provide each law enforcement agency up to $20,000 per dog to offset the cost of acquiring, training, and equipping new drug dogs. In Ohio, about 400 police dogs trained to detect marijuana will have to be retired due to legalization. Officials said the dog's warning of the presence of the drug could be challenged in court because it is impossible to reliably retrain a dog to forget the smell of marijuana.

Candy company touts gum as stress reliever and concentration aid to revive sluggish U.S. sales
Gum makers are trying to figure out what makes Americans start chewing again. Generational habits, health concerns and the coronavirus pandemic have caused gum sales to plummet. Some manufacturers have completely withdrawn from the US market. But Mars, the company that owns the 133-year-old Wrigley brand, is repositioning gum as not just a way to freshen breath, but also as a stress reliever and focus aid. Company executives say their “aha moment” came when a nurse in a COVID-19 ward chewed gum behind a mask to calm herself. U.S. chewing gum sales rose less than 1% last year to 1.2 billion packages, but were still down 32% from 2018, according to market research firm Circana.
Investigators say they have confirmed the pilot's account of the Boeing Max plane's rudder control failure
Federal investigators have confirmed a pilot's testimony that the Boeing Max jetliner's rudder controls failed during landing last month. The National Transportation Safety Board on Thursday released a preliminary report on the Feb. 6 incident when a United Airlines flight from the Bahamas landed in Newark, New Jersey. Pilots said the pedals that control the rudder stopped working as the plane rolled off the runway. They could use the nose gear steering wheel to change direction from the runway to high-speed turnoffs. Investigators said mechanics were unable to identify the problem, but after replacing some of the rudder control components, the plane was operating normally.

Stunning yellow mustard fields draw tourists to Northern California's wine country
NAPA COUNTY, Calif. (AP) — Bright yellow and golden mustard blankets Northern California's wine country. This plant signals the start of spring and celebrates all the sharp, mustardy flavors of Napa and Sonoma counties. Plants aren't just beautiful to look at. They are also passionate about preserving their world-famous vineyards. This plant contains high levels of biofumigants, which inhibit the growth of microscopic insects that can damage the vines. But not everyone likes mustard that isn't native to California. They grow so aggressively that they suffocate native plants such as blue lupines and poppies. Wine producers say the factory is now working for them.
Cinnamon powder sold at discount stores is contaminated with lead, FDA warns

Cinnamon contains levels of lead that can be dangerous to people, especially children, if exposed to the spice for long periods of time. Consumers should not purchase the product and should throw away all containers in their homes. FDA officials have begun what they call a “targeted investigation” of cinnamon products following a recall of lead-tainted cinnamon applesauce pouches that sickened nearly 500 children.
