American Airlines has streamlined its policies for passengers traveling with pets.
According to the Associated Press, the airline is now allowing passengers to bring their pets on board with their regular carry-on baggage and personal items. However, you cannot bring both carry-on baggage and personal items with you.
Previously, passengers traveling with pets could only bring one small item that would fit under the seat in front of them, the paper said. Larger carry-on bags are subject to a $35 fee on top of the standard $150 pet fee.

A carry-on pet is a dog or cat that meets specified requirements such as age, size, destination, etc., according to its policy. Pets are also allowed in American Airlines cargo.
An American Airlines representative told BI: “On March 28, American Airlines updated its in-flight pet policy to allow customers traveling with pets to carry personal items and carry-on luggage that fits in the overhead bin. ” he said. “We made this change to provide a more convenient and comfortable experience for pet owners flying American Airlines.”
The latest policy update comes after American Airlines announced it would increase checked baggage fees in February. Previously, one checked bag cost $30 and a second one cost $40. Currently, the first piece of checked baggage on domestic flights costs $35 and the second piece costs $45.
The company also changed the way customers earn frequent flyer miles and loyalty points.
