NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — It's never too late to make decisions to improve your life.
Whether you're trying a new diet or starting a new workout routine, it can be scary, difficult, and even discouraging.
Thankfully, you don't have to make big changes all at once to live a healthier life. Even small changes can lead to positive results.
Starting with one thing, establishing habits, and building upon them will help you achieve your desired goals in the future.
Here are six small things you can start doing to make a difference.
The first one, Add more fruits and vegetables to your dietOr, if you're not into fruits and vegetables yet, try something new every week. Your plate should contain approximately 50% fruits/vegetables to reduce the risk of chronic disease and illness.
The second is Stop eating snacks straight from the package Because you can't always control how much you eat. This is especially true when it comes to unhealthy items.
The 3rd one, drink more water. Replace soda and other caffeinated drinks with more water. This removes excess calories, sugar, sweetness, chemicals, and caffeine. Typically, men should consume about 15.5 cups of water and women should consume 11.5 cups.
The fourth thing to add is move more and sit less, this can be very difficult if you have a desk job. Thankfully, there are small things you can do, like taking short walks around your space or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. If you have time before or after work, you can also exercise at the gym or at home. We recommend exercising for 30 minutes, five days a week.
The fifth thing may be difficult, but improve sleep quality. Some things that can help accomplish this are keeping your bedroom dark, quiet, and at a cool temperature. To establish a sleep routine, you should only go to bed when it's time to go to bed, turn off electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime, and choose to read a book that helps you fall asleep instead.
The last thing you can add to your life is find a new hobby. It could be knitting, reading, puzzles, or something that helps you relax and find joy.
