A video of a man stealing nearly 50 iPhones from a store in front of several people has been shared on social media. In the video, the man can be seen picking up a cellphone from a display, putting it in his pocket, and walking out of the store to his getaway car. The Emeryville Police Department announced on Facebook that the man seen in the video and others involved in the theft have been arrested.
The video shows a man wearing all black and wearing a mask. He walks around the display and tears the phone apart along with the attached cord. He picks up the iPhone and starts shoving it down his pants. Once that was done, the assailant exited the store, passed a parked Emeryville Police Department police vehicle, and made his way to a car parked on the opposite side of the road. The thieves stole 50 cell phones worth $49,230.
In a Facebook post, the department said it responded to a call about a theft and that the vehicle seen in the video of the suspect exiting the store was “unoccupied” at the time of the incident.
The department added: “On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, a joint law enforcement operation consisting of detectives from the Berkeley Police Department, CHP, and Emeryville Police Department arrested three individuals in connection with the theft from the Apple Store,” which occurred earlier that morning in Berkeley. Ta. The person seen in the video from the Apple Store in Emeryville was one of those arrested last night. ”
“Detectives with the Emeryville Police Department arrested 22-year-old Tyler Mims of Berkeley. Mims was arrested for his involvement in several thefts of the former Apple Store. He was charged with (3) 182 PCC ( “Criminal Conspiracy), (3) 459PCC (Robbery), (3) 487PCC (Grand Larceny), (3) 490.4PCC (Organized Retail Theft),” the department further posted.
