HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Hendersonville business is working to reopen after smoke damage to the building forced it to close Sunday night.
Owner Christy Doherty said Mar & Paws Pet Supply hopes to reopen next week.
Ms Doherty said she received a call from firefighters Sunday night saying the fire alarm had gone off and found a fire at the nail salon next door. Due to smoke damage, most of Doherty's inventory will have to be cleaned or disposed of.
“It was scary,” Doherty said. “Possessions are replaceable. It's difficult, but we'll keep things in perspective and come out of this situation strong.”
Without the fire alarm, Doherty fears the fire could have destroyed the building and nearby businesses.
As a small business owner, Dougherty says the worst part is losing the customers she's served since Ma & Paws opened in 2007.
“We're like a big family. Perhaps the best part about it is that we help everyone's pets be healthier and happier,” Dougherty said. “We're going to open as soon as possible. We know that everyone is short on food, so we have to open so that everyone can eat and be happy.”
Dougherty plans to move his business next month to a new location with more space and new state-of-the-art grooming equipment.
The nail salon where the fire occurred has resumed operations.
