This week's Pet of the Week winners are border collie Deacon and his cat friend Boo.
They live in Ball Ground, Ga., and owner Karen Skrencica recently filmed them playing one of their favorite games.
Deacon the Border Collie has a strong herding instinct, but if sheep aren't available, he'll use the next best option: the neighborhood cat.
“They are friends and Boo comes over often,” Skrencica said. newsweek. “I don't own livestock or other livestock for Deacon to herd, so Deacon satisfies his herding instincts with Boo, and Boo keeps coming back for more.”
Border Collies have a strong herding instinct that stems from their history of being bred to gather, herd, and protect livestock.
This instinct is so strong that Border Collies may try to herd not only animals but also humans. An affectionate and active breed, they require plenty of attention and exercise to redirect their energy.

This week's first finalist is Willow, a Yorkshire terrier and Chihuahua who lives with her owner Diane Lovell in Quebec, Canada.
“His favorite thing to do is chase squirrels,” Lovell said. newsweek. “I love his grace and beautiful face.”
Next up this week is Loki, an American bully who weighs 105 pounds.
“He's very smart and funny and stubborn at the same time,” owner Melissa Shober said. newsweek.
He is almost 2 years old and is a big fan of tennis balls and has mastered the art of carrying two at a time.
“He's still trying three times,” Shober laughed.
Last but not least, this week we have Ellie, a 5-month-old short-haired Border Collie mix.
“Every morning she sits by the window and looks across the yard at the neighbor's German shepherd,” said her owner, Darlene Bell. newsweek.
“They both have an invisible fence to keep them safe from the road that separates us,” Bell added. “I think we should set up a play date.”
