Eden is majoring in business.
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, Fla. – Being a scholarship athlete at Florida Tech requires incredible hard work and dedication to excel both in the classroom and on the field. In this edition of Scholar-Athlete Spotlight, we spoke with Panther men's basketball player Isaiah Eden, who is majoring in business.
Isaiah, a native of West Palm Beach, Florida, transferred to Florida Tech from Southern Union State Community College in Alabama.
Isaiah also joined us to talk about why he chose Florida Tech and how his education is preparing him for his career.
Please tell us a little about your major. Why did you choose it and what do you want to do with it?
I am a business major and my father is a GC and has his own company. So I thought business would be the right step.
What made you want to come here about Florida Tech?
The coaching staff is obviously much closer to home. I'm in his JUCO in Alabama and I'm from West Palm, so Melbourne is much closer than Alabama and its whole culture. I really enjoyed my visit here and thought this was the right choice for me.
You just finished your first semester at Florida Tech. What have you enjoyed in the classroom so far? Have you had any eye-opening experiences?
There are a lot of different people from different countries and different perspectives, and the teachers are great.
What did you learn about your major at Florida Tech that you didn't know before?
Yes and no. I'm a junior and a transferee, so I've taken a lot of introductory classes and stuff, and I know most things, but I'm learning how to be an entrepreneur because I want to follow in my dad's footsteps.
How did being a college athlete prepare you for what you're doing now, and what lessons did you learn from the court that inform your studies?
Basketball taught me discipline, getting up, practicing and training and working with other people, things like that.
What advice would you give to athletes coming to Florida Tech interested in business?
At Florida Tech, managing your time between school and basketball requires a lot of hard work. You need to be very disciplined, know what you want and go after it.
What are you most proud of doing in the classroom?
A few things. First, I got good grades. I got an A and a B. That's something I'm proud of. His second thing in my business class required me to give a presentation to other executives, and I thought I did a good job on that.
