The Behavioral Sciences Association at Northwest Missouri State University is accepting artwork submissions for “I Will Listen,” an annual event aimed at raising awareness of mental illness while promoting mental health and well-being.
The deadline to submit your work is Monday, February 12th at 3pm. Works can be submitted to the front desk in the West Building on the 2nd floor of Colden Hall. All works must include the title, artist name, and school or community organization.
Art media being considered for entry include drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, music, poetry, comics, sewing, quilting, photography, short stories, mixed media, dance, and more. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each application category.
“I Will Listen” will be held on Thursday, March 28th from 1pm to 7pm in the JW Jones Student Union Board Room. It's free and open to the public.
In addition to viewing the art exhibit, attendees can also participate in a paint-and-ship activity with a $10 materials fee. The event will also feature speakers and an exercise room with yoga and circuit training sessions.
All proceeds raised during the event will be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. He has a goal of raising $500 for the Society for Behavioral Sciences.
“We hope people will see the artwork, listen to the speakers, join the exercise room, and become more aware of the expressions and resources that support their mental health,” said Psychiatrist and President of the Society for Behavioral Sciences. said junior major Sada Irving. From Ellsbury. “We hope that people will be willing to advocate for individuals and families suffering from mental illness and understand the normality and importance of looking after their mental health.”
