It's been quite a while since the last Tidbits, and a lot has happened in the past two months. So Georgia Tech has a lot of latest sports news. Tech athletic director J Batt sent us his 2023 recap last week, so that's a good place to start.
In this message from Butt, he highlights some of the key events of 2023. A Sweet 16 appearance for the Yellow Jackets volleyball team was a great way to end 2023. And then there's the football team's victory over his UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl. I went to the Florida Keys for the first time during the holiday season and it was very special to me. But I have to admit that watching Tech convincingly beat UCF was probably one of the best early Christmas presents I could have hoped for.
Butt also mentioned the men's basketball team. Coach Damon Stoudamire led the Jackets to a very thrilling December, which included big wins over top-25 teams, including No. 7 Duke University. Needless to say, he paints a positive picture and I have to agree that things are looking up for Georgia Tech sports fans.
The Georgia Tech men's basketball team ran into some issues in the first month of 2024, suffering a five-game losing streak. At 9-8 overall and 2-4 in the ACC, the team has a chance to bounce back this weekend.
In this SI ACC Power Rankings article, the Yellow Jackets are ranked 14th. They will play back-to-back ACC games against Virginia and Pitt, who are ranked 10th and 11th, respectively, in the same rankings. Tech won on the road against Clemson this past Tuesday and hosts Virginia today. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. Hopefully they can stay above .500 and keep winning.
I know football season is over, but the offseason can be just as interesting in my opinion. What better place to watch than recruiting news? As the article states, Antwon Hill Jr., widely considered one of the top quarterbacks in the 2025 class, will commit to Tech University this weekend. It is reported that he will visit. Hill has attracted the attention of several big-name schools, and he will be on many teams' list of potential quarterbacks in the 2025 class. We hope he has a great visit to The Flats.
