(KSNB) – Just as the calendar flipped into the new year, the temperature script took a 180-degree turn as we moved from talking about the warmest month on record to the city of Hastings' top 10 coldest Januarys. . This January in the birthplace of Kool-Aid has been a bit cold so far, to say the least. He only had three days with average high temperatures, and the remaining 15 days were below average temperatures. So far, temperatures in January 2024 are 12.7 degrees below the normal average of 36.2 degrees. So how does our current January compare to the coldest January on record? Let's take a look. Currently, January 2024 ranks as the fourth coldest January on record, with the current average high temperature of 23.5 degrees. The last time Hastings experienced a similar cold January was about 14 years ago in 2010. The first month of 2024 has been bitterly cold, but it falls short of the coldest January since records were kept in Hastings. It was January 1979. The month's high average temperatures would have kept the walruses hunkered down. The average maximum temperature is 20.5 degrees. January is usually the coldest month of winter.
