Purina has responded to recent online rumors that its food products are dangerous for pets.
In recent weeks, people have been saying on TikTok and Facebook that Purina's Pro Plan food is causing illnesses in animals, primarily dogs.
Purina said it reviewed all claims and its own testing and found “no data or trends to suggest a problem.” Rest assured that we are continuing to monitor this situation and will act immediately if a real issue arises to ensure consumers have the information they need. ”
The Facebook group Saving Pets One Pet @ A Time has more than 81,000 members. Pet owners have shared stories of their pets developing diarrhea, vomiting, and even death after eating Purina Pro Her Plan. Some members reported filing complaints with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and boycotting Purina.
“There are no health or safety issues with our products and you can continue to give them with confidence,” Purina said in a statement.

Purina said the online information is being disseminated by “people who market and/or sell products that compete with Purina,” some of whom promote products and brands that are not the active targets of this rumor. Purina said it has a “comprehensive quality and safety program in place designed to detect potential problems long before products reach pet owners.”
“Each of our pet food plants has an in-house quality assurance lab staffed by scientists. We test our entire network of plants every day, from incoming raw material testing, throughout the manufacturing process, to the final product. We have conducted over 100,000 quality checks.

In February 2023, Nestlé Purina Petcare Company voluntarily recalled some prescription dog foods that may contain too much vitamin D. The recall comes after two dogs became ill.
