SAN JOSE — Tech companies reveal plans to cut hundreds more jobs in the Bay Area, while biotech companies are shedding dozens more, exacerbating an already shaky start to early 2024. state documents show.
Bill.com, Juniper, and Spotify are among the tech companies that have announced their intention to cut Bay Area jobs in the latest round of layoffs. Biotechnology company Amyris also announced plans to cut positions.
Overall, the tech industry has decided to cut at least 251 jobs in the Bay Area, according to a WARN notice filed with the state Employment Development Department.
Here are the details of the latest layoffs affecting Bay Area tech workers, according to a post on EDD's official website:
— Bill.com, operating through an affiliated company called Bill Operations LLC, has decided to eliminate all 156 jobs at its corporate headquarters facility north of San Jose. These job cuts are scheduled to take effect on February 5th.
— Juniper Networks is cutting 51 jobs, all in Sunnyvale. The layoffs are scheduled for February 5th.
— Spotify USA is cutting 44 positions, all in San Francisco. The cuts are scheduled for March 4th.
Biotechnology company Amyris will cut 89 jobs in Emeryville starting February 7th.
In both cases, the layoffs are described as permanent.
