Did you know that cavities are the leading cause of students missing school? Nevada County Public Health's Oral Health Program is dedicated to keeping children healthy, pain-free, and ready to learn. is focused on.
Last month, the California Department of Public Health highlighted the hard work of the Nevada County Oral Health Program and its program coordinator, Jamie Hanff. The mission of the Nevada County Oral Health Program is to educate the community about oral health and assist the public in accessing oral health resources. The spotlight focused on Nevada County's school-based oral health program. The program partners with local schools to ensure that every kindergartener in the county has access to an oral health provider by the end of the school year. Most recently, the program launched a school-based sealant program. This program focuses on providing sealants to eligible students in second grade and her third grade. Sealants are a quick and painless preventive measure that has been proven to reduce cavities by up to 80%. After piloting the oral health program in one school this year, we are excited to expand the program next year.
