You can now adopt a pet from Will County Animal Shelter
For the first time in Will County Animal Services history, residents are allowed to adopt a pet directly through the agency, county officials said.
The new adoption program is the result of Will County's animal welfare policy changes in response to the growing population of animal shelters nationwide, a county news release said.
Prior to the program's launch, animals in the department's care were transferred to other animal welfare organizations for adoption, the release said.
“Shelters in this country are overpopulated because there are more adoptions than adoptions, and we are no exception,” Anna Peyton, animal care manager, said in a statement. . “We need the help of local residents to adopt these wonderful animals.”
Animals available for adoption can be found at IL1035.petfinder.com.
Residents can schedule a visit for their adoptable pets by calling 815-462-5633 or emailing adopt@willcountyillinois.com.
Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m. at the County Animal Services Department, 22452 Cherry Hill Road, Joliet.
