NEW DELHI: Israeli intelligence has “jammed GPS signals to confuse the attackers” — and the IDF claims it has intercepted “99% of Iranian drones and missiles.”
According to reports, Israeli Defense Forces and intelligence forces were able to thwart an attack by a swarm of Iranian drones and missiles by jamming GPS signals. The interference disrupted the guidance systems of Iranian weapons aimed at Israeli targets, averting potential harm and demonstrating Israel's technological capabilities in countering regional threats.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) deployed advanced jamming techniques to neutralize the GPS capabilities of Iranian drones and missiles, preventing them from accurately reaching their intended destinations. The strategic operation was a proactive step to protect Israel's territory and people from a potential attack orchestrated by Iran, the Daily Mail reported.
Regarding the operation, an Israeli Defense Forces spokesperson acknowledged the effectiveness of GPS jamming technology, saying, “Through precise jamming of GPS signals, Israeli intelligence identified the imminent threat posed by Iranian drones and missiles. We were able to neutralize it.” The spokesperson emphasized Israel's efforts to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of its people from hostilities.
Iran launched the attack in retaliation for what appeared to be an Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Syria on April 1, resulting in the deaths of top Revolutionary Guards Corps leaders. The incident was part of ongoing tensions stoked by the war in Gaza and conflict with Iran's allies in the region.
Although more than 300 missiles and drones were fired at Israel, the damage was relatively light. Most of these were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome defense system, with additional support from the US, UK, France and Jordan.
The most serious injury reported in Israel was a 7-year-old child with shrapnel wounds.
However, the extent to which escalation can be avoided remains questionable. President Joe Biden has told Israel that the United States will not participate in any Israeli retaliation, according to U.S. officials.
But Israel is still considering its response and will “impose a price from Iran in a manner and at a time that suits us,” Israeli Minister Benny Gantz said on Sunday.
Although specific details about the operation remain confidential, Israeli officials reiterated their determination to confront any threats to national security head-on.
