The Kansas State women's tennis team wrapped up its regular season last week, defeating Louisiana Tech 4-0 at home on Friday, before falling to undefeated Oklahoma State on Sunday.
Against the Bulldogs, K-State won the doubles point and never slowed down, holding Louisiana Tech (14-7, 3-1 CUSA) scoreless and giving the Wildcats their fourth game of the season. No points were scored.
K-State earned doubles points on courts 1 and 2. Third-year Veronica Kulhava and freshman Tereza Polakova won back-to-back games, defeating Olga Viensovas and Ana Rodriguez 6-3 to take the No. 1 spot with an 8-7 record this spring. MHS standouts, freshman Jillian Harkin and senior Manami Ukita, won their third match as a pair 6-4 to take second place over Tiffany Nash and Valentina Vasquez.
Competing in her first spring game, senior Aline Quamar teamed up with freshman Marargu Chogsomjab, but fell behind Zoe Epps and Alexia Romero in third place with a 6-4 record.
Polakova started the day with a straight-set win in singles, defeating No. 3 Vasquez 6-1, 6-0.
Chogsomjab competed for the number one spot for the first time and won 6-3, 6-3 over Biençobas for his 10th win of the year.
Ukita secured back-to-back wins for K-State, this time defeating No. 4 Nash in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
Quamar, who returned to action for the first time since Nov. 12, battled No. 6 Romero to three sets, with the match tied at 6-1, 2-6, 1-0.
Kulhaba entered his second consecutive unfinished match and finished in third place against Rodriguez, 6-3, 3-4.
Elsewhere for the first time this season, sophomore Maria Santos entered the game at No. 5 against Epps, falling 6-7 (2-7) in the first set tiebreaker and 2-3 in the second. I couldn't decide.
And on Sunday, K-State couldn't find an answer against No. 1 Oklahoma State (24-0, 13-0 Big 12), dropping doubles points and against top-ranked singles opponents. We couldn't get enough momentum.
The doubles lineup looked a little different than it did against the Cowgirls. Her freshman Charlotte Keitel competed in doubles for the first time since March 3, and she tied for second place with Kulhaba for the first time, losing 6-3 to Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez. .
Chogsomjab and Santos, competing for the world No. 1 spot for the first time, faced Anastasia Komar and Anju Oby Kajuru, the No. 5 duo in the country, but fell short 6-2.
In third place, Harkin and Ukita defeated Safiyah Carrington and Kristina Novak, 3 wins and 5 losses.
Sophomore Vanessa Suarez, playing for the first time since the April 5 game against Houston, played against No. 12 Comal, which was ranked No. 1, and lost 6-1, 6-2.
Keitel took on No. 4 Obie Kajuru for the No. 2 spot and lost 6-1, 6-3.
Santos, who returned to sixth place, lost to his only unranked opponent, Novak, 6-0, 6-1.
Ukita, who last played against a ranked opponent on February 9th, was the only Wildcat not to start the second set, taking on No. 89 Miyamoto in the fifth set, 5-7 in the first set. We fought for the score.
Chogsom jab was incomplete against No. 2 opponent, No. 56 Peyre, No. 3, who was leading 2-6, 3-2 in the second set.
Kulhava entered the tournament in fourth place for the first time, but lost to No. 73 Carrington 6-1, 4-3.
K-State awaits the final seed for the Big 12 Tournament, scheduled to begin Wednesday at Stillwater, hosted by the Cowgirls.
