Twelve days ago, Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young committed UTSA transfer Jordan Ivy Curry to the Hokies, making his first transfer portal deal for the 2024-25 season. . Apparently the guard had a change of heart.
Ivy Curry announced Sunday that she will enter the 2024 NBA Draft but will retain her college eligibility, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.
Last season with the Roadrunners, Ivy-Curry averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds and three assists per game while shooting 40.1 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from behind. He averaged about 28 minutes a night at UTSA.
Sean Pedulla remains in the transfer portal, leaving the door open for him to return to Blacksburg, but it's hard to imagine that happening. MJ Collins is also in the portal, with Tyler his nickel committed to Vanderbilt and Lynn his nickel committed to Miami. Mylyjael Poteat joined Protal, but he announced three days later that he would be returning to Virginia Tech.
College of Charleston's Ben Burnham, a forward who can shoot the three-ball, contributed, but Young and his staff still have a lot of work to do in the portal. Of course, Ivy Curry could come back at any time, but I have a feeling some scouts have been in his ear and his stock may be higher than he realizes. Either way, Young will need to impress Fairfield guard Jalen Leach and Temple guard Heijer Miller during his visit.
It's a strange twist in a strange first month of the offseason for Mike Young and Virginia Tech.
