Honor is back in India in 2023 under the HTech brand. This year, the Madhav Sheth-led company launched his second smartphone, the Honor X9b 5G, along with its first smartwatch, the Honor Choice Watc. Debuting at Rs 6,499, the smartwatch features an AMOLED display, runs Android, and comes with all the bells and whistles usually found on mid-range smartwatches.
The watch supports lifestyle features such as GPS, Bluetooth calling, and long-lasting battery, and also has health and fitness features such as SpO2, heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and activity tracking. We've been using the white color variant of the Honor Choice Watch for a few weeks now. My impressions are shown below.
design
The Honor Choice Watch features a rectangular dial with a smooth bezel, and the metal texture provides a premium look. It weighs 45 grams and is comfortable to wear all day long, and I was able to wear it while sleeping without any problems.
The metallic colored edge of the smartwatch also houses a circular crown that offers limited functionality. Can only be used to switch between the main menu and home screen.
The smartwatch's silicone strap fits comfortably on your wrist, as long as you don't wear it too tightly. Also, wearing the watch for long periods of time (if it's too tight) can cause skin irritation and rashes. The strap can be removed and reattached to the dial without breaking a sweat.
This smartwatch features 5 ATM water resistance, so you can easily deal with water splashes and sweat during your workout sessions. Honor Choice Watch also has a vibration drain feature that removes water droplets by shaking the device.
Display This smartwatch features a rectangular 1.95-inch AMOLED display that provides sharp, colorful visuals and is bright enough for outdoor use even in bright sunlight. The display also had a smooth and crisp feel, providing an overall premium visual experience.
However, the Honor Choice Watch does not support brightness adjustment, so I had to manually adjust it under different light conditions.
This minor inconvenience aside, the watch's display feels smooth to operate, and we didn't notice any lag or other display performance issues during our testing.
Performance Like most other mid-range Android smartwatches, the Honor Choice Watch cannot function independently as a standalone device and must be paired with a smartphone (via Bluetooth) to reach its full potential. need to do it.
To set up the device, users still need to install the Honor Health companion app on their smartphone. This app is compatible with both iPhone and Android devices.
During testing, the setup process seemed a little slow, with the entire process taking nearly 30 minutes. Once the watch was connected to my smartphone, both the app and the watch worked in sync.
It's also important to note that I've noticed occasional delays in notification syncing, especially when the watch's battery level is low or when I've just turned it on. Also, when the app installed firmware updates, it took several minutes to sync data.
Speaking of lifestyle features, we were particularly impressed with the Bluetooth calling experience this watch offers. When paired with a smartphone, the wearable can now answer/reject calls directly from the display.
The watch's speakers helped provide clear audio, and the microphone also provided a hassle-free experience for the person on the other end.
I also didn't experience any connectivity issues while receiving calls on the watch. I also saw notifications from multiple apps, but couldn't respond to any of them.
Additionally, the smartwatch's health tracking features such as breathing exercises and stress management, as well as sedentary reminders to stay hydrated, also helped maintain a healthy lifestyle. Other health-related features such as sleep, heart rate, and SpO2 monitoring were also reasonably accurate.
For fitness tracking, Honor Choice Watch also supports a pedometer and multiple workout modes. The step count wasn't very accurate, but it provided a good average overview of your daily fitness activities.
Apart from this, this watch also includes other useful features such as a built-in calculator, compass, voice recording, and music player for added user convenience.
Wearables come with only a few default watch faces. However, a companion app allows users to choose from hundreds of custom his watch faces and sync them directly to the watch to get a new look every day.
battery
The Honor Choice Watch lived up to the company's claims regarding battery life. The watch took less than two hours to fully charge. After that, the battery lasted him nearly a week, even with all notifications, activity tracking, and other features running in the background.
verdict
The Honor Choice Watch strikes a nice balance between lifestyle and fitness features considering its price. Other than a few limitations, the smartwatch offered decent performance overall.
If you're looking for a mid-range Android smartwatch, the Honor Choice Watch is worth considering. The device has a premium build, beautiful display, easy-to-navigate UI, great battery life, and useful features like Bluetooth calling and health and fitness tracking.
