A raw food influencer and lifestyle blogger has pleaded guilty to starving his newborn baby to death after trying to feed him sunlight instead of food.
Maxime Luti, 44, had tried to raise her newborn baby on a pranic diet, meaning it was “sun-eating” without food or water, the court was told.
The baby, named Cosmos, was less than a month old and weighed just 3.5 pounds at the time of death. The official cause of death was “pneumonia and weakness” caused by Ryuty and her partner Oksana Mironova, 34, not feeding the boy properly.
Luti changed her plea and confessed that she had actually caused the baby's death, resulting in a charge of “intentionally inflicting grievous bodily harm”, which carries a maximum sentence of eight years in prison and a fine.
He pleaded guilty in a final court appearance before sentencing in Sochi this week. Previously, he had tried to shift the blame to Mironova, who is already serving a two-year non-custodial sentence of “corrective labor.” He claimed that she had iron deficiency, which caused her baby's death. But it turns out that Ms. Lyuti, who had been held in a Russian detention center for more than a year after the death of her baby, had been eating her own meat (pasta and stew) in defiance of her own strictures.
The court was previously told that Ms Ryuti wanted to raise her newborn on a pranic diet, or “eating the sun” without food or water for long periods of time. Oksana's mother Galina accused the evil Lyuti of running a “sect”. “I opposed her daughter joining this sect,” she said. “I felt everything and told her that Maxim was crazy, but she did not listen to me. Oksana lived there like a guinea pig. She grew cold towards me… She was his slave.”
