The University of Arkansas at Pulaski Technical College will receive a $5,736,624 award from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand its nursing education program. The grant was secured in partnership with the Arkansas Association of Community Colleges and grant-writing firm New Growth.

“This award recognizes the role community colleges play in meeting the need for skilled health care professionals to work in hospitals, clinics, and home health facilities across the state,” said UA-PTC President Summer DeProw. ” he said. “Just as our nursing programs benefit greatly, so too do our graduates who enjoy the economic security that these jobs bring. And of course, when health care in Arkansas improves, we all benefit.” I will receive it.”
The award was given by the U.S. Department of Labor to 16 universities in 14 states to expand their ability to meet the skill development needs of employers and provide training to help students land good jobs. It is part of a $65 million grant. Grant recipients will work with industry stakeholders to identify the workforce needs of multiple employers within selected industries in the labor market area.
“Attendance in the UA-PTC nursing program is highly competitive,” said Tareia Johnson, dean of the UA-PTC College of Science, Mathematics, and Allied Health. “We have a waiting list of students who wish to join our program. The opportunity to expand our program and increase enrollment provides great jobs for our graduates and qualifications in Central Arkansas.” This has the great advantage of meeting the high demand for nurses in the field.”
