As Michigan State continues to enter its 2025 recruiting class, it's clear the focus is on keeping local in-state talent domestic during this cycle.
The Spartans are currently eyeing three-star linebacker Demari Malone from Macomb (Mich.) Dakota, and 247Sports' three Crystal Ball predictions came in favor of MSU on Saturday. Malone recently took an unofficial visit to Michigan State for spring practice and is scheduled for an official visit to East Lansing the weekend of June 7th.
Malone is considered the No. 746 overall player, No. 79 linebacker and No. 11 player out of Michigan in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports' composite rankings. The 6-foot, 200-pounder has 18 scholarship offers. So far, they include Illinois, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Kansas, Indiana, Rutgers and West Virginia.
As of now, the Fighting Illini and Golden Gophers appear to be the Spartans' top competitors in the battle for Malone. The Michigan native took an official visit to Illinois on April 20 and plans an official visit to Minnesota later this summer. During his junior season in high school, Malone recorded 73 tackles, with eight tackles for loss and one sack. He also added three interceptions, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and six pass breakups.
Michigan State is currently the favorite to land the state's top two linebackers in the 2025 recruiting cycle. In addition to Malone, Michigan's second-highest ranked linebacker, the Spartans are also eyeing Charles White of Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary's. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder will travel to East Lansing for spring practice on April 4, and MSU will sign White, Michigan's highest-ranked linebacker, in the 2025 cycle. Making crystal ball predictions. White is considered the No. 594 overall player, No. 66 linebacker and No. 10 player in his class out of Michigan State.
Finally, Michigan State is also the crystal ball favorite for Roseville (Mich.) three-star athlete Desmond Strawton, with four predictions favoring the Spartans. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Stratton is considered the No. 564 overall player, No. 40 athlete and No. 9 player in the 2025 class out of Michigan. It's clear that MSU head coach Jonathan Smith and his leadership are excellent. Staff is focused on keeping some of the state's best talent at home.
