New Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy has been busy this week. On Thursday, Duffy and Virginia Tech announced the hiring of Charney Zoll-Norman as an assistant coach. Former University of Virginia star point guard Zol Norman was the coach at Penn State before joining Duffy.
On Friday, Duffy announced staff additions, welcoming Itoro Coleman to the staff as associate head coach. Coleman spent the past three seasons at North Carolina, helping lead the Tar Heels to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Prior to his time in Chapel Hill, Coleman served as an assistant under Duffy at Marquette in 2020-21.
Coleman, 47, was a star at Clemson and led the Tigers to two ACC championships. She was named an All-American, a defensive All-American, a three-time All-ACC selection, and was named ACC Tournament MVP in 1999.
She had a brief stint in the WNBA and represented the United States at the 1999 Pan American Games. Coleman played for the Nigerian national team at the 2004 Summer Olympics.
Her coaching career includes:
- Liberty: (1999-00)
- Butler: (2000-02)
- Pennsylvania: (2002-07)
- Clemson: (2007-10)
- Clemson: (head coach, 2010-13)

Duffy released the following statement via HokieSports:
“I couldn't be more excited to welcome Itro Coleman to Virginia Tech,” Duffy said. “She will bring incredible experience to our program on and off the court. Itoro is an elite-level recruiter and teacher. Our student-athletes will thrive under her leadership. She will grow. She brings great experience and knowledge of the ACC landscape and will help us continue our winning tradition.”
Coleman is a member of the Clemson Athletic Hall of Fame as a player and ranks among the top 10 in school history in points, assists and steals.
This is another great hire by Duffy. Coleman is known as a great recruiter and has deep ties to the ACC and the region.
Welcome to Virginia Tech, Coach Coleman.
