Jackson Animal Care Center has fur babies ranging from cats to dogs and even birds.
“Sometimes we catch guinea pigs or rabbits or we catch fish. Sometimes, or once a year, we catch birds and things like that. And they always surrender to their owners, and we help them you never find out that it's a stray dog,” said Michael Anea, animal control officer at Jackson Animal Shelter.
Cats can be adopted for $40 and dogs can be adopted for $80. Prices vary depending on the case.
However, the application is simple.
“So our adoption process is actually very simple. We have an application form that you fill out on the front and back. Whether you own or rent a home, whether you have other pets, Here are some questions to ask depending on your situation, which veterinarian you are seeing,” Ananea said.
Anea started working at the Jackson Animal Shelter because of one of her pets.
His dog was originally a neighbor's pet, which he adopted and cared for.
“I was a new neighbor who wanted to help someone. And I ended up getting involved with the shelter here, and when I called here, I reached out to Whitney, the director, and she said, 'Yeah, dogs. We set up a shed and a pet food bank, and they sent us supplies for him.'' ” Anea.
Remember, it's always best to adopt locally rather than through a breeder.
“This is one of those things where you have to keep the dogs out, so we continue to help the dogs that are still out, because once you get full, there's only so much you can do at that point. “Because we are being treated,” Anea said.
Today is the day to love your pet more than usual or make plans for adoption.
