Bird watching tour
The Redwood Area Audubon Society will be offering free guided birding tours at the Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday.
Everyone meets leader Ralph Butcher at the visitor center and joins us on a 2-mile walk along a wide, flat, gravel-packed trail that is easily accessible.
Just outside of town, this reserve offers incredible access to tidal habitats such as tidal flats, riparian vegetation, coniferous forests, and bays that are home to a variety of geese, birds of prey, sandpipers, and sandpipers. Easy access.
To apply for this trip, please email the trip leader at thebook@reninet.com.
day trip
The Redwood Area Audubon Society and trip leader Ken Burton will host a full-day trip to Snow Camp Road on Sunday. Participants must provide lunch for the day.
Snow Camp Road has received increased attention from birders in recent years, and the site is considered one of Humboldt County's premier underground birding sites.
Participants will explore the entire ridge, looking for species such as partridge, wild turkey, ruffed grouse, sooty grouse, goshawk, Lewis's woodpecker, parus, white-bellied nuthatch, and chipping sparrow.
We all carpool to the event. Meet Burton at Peppers' Arcata at 7:30 a.m. or at Lord Ellis Summit at 8 a.m. For more information, please email your trip leader at shrikethree@gmail.com.
cycling tour
Friends of Arcata Marsh board member Andy Feinstein and his trusty metal horse Ernie will lead the “Second Sunday Cycling Tour” through Arcata Marsh this Sunday. All ages are welcome.
Everyone will meet at the Arcata Marsh Interpretive Center at 2 p.m. Please bring your own bicycle. The event will be canceled due to heavy rain.
This 90-minute tour focuses on the “three W's of wetlands”: wetlands, wildlife, and sewage treatment. Mr. Feinstein will cycle around the facility, which includes the head plant, treatment wetlands, oxidation ponds, and enhanced wetlands (without entering the co-op yard) and explain their functions and relationships. For more information, call 707-826-2359.

About craft beer
Jacob Plessy, owner and brewmaster of Humboldt Regeneration, will speak at the Eureka Woman's Club, 1531 J St., Eureka, on April 17 at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to bring their own lunch and eat with club and community members at noon before the program.

Humboldt Regeneration's mission is to raise awareness about the importance of relocalizing food systems and use craft beer as a platform to promote regenerative agriculture.
As a small business in Humboldt County, Humboldt Regeneration aims to directly support the local food economy and strive to be an example of a post-carbon era business model in the region.
