What has been your favorite thing about Atlanta so far? What made it such a great place to earn your MBA?
I've lived in Atlanta for about 10 years and it's definitely home. Everything from the incredible food to the wonderful people makes this place special. My favorite thing about Atlanta is that each neighborhood has a different vibe. From Kirkwood's Wine Walk to Virginia Highlands' Porchfest, each region has its own “thing” and everyone is proud to show it off. Scheller is located in Midtown, right in the heart of it all.
Apart from classmates and location, What was the key part of the Scherer MBA programming that led you to choose this business school and why was it so important to you?
What really appealed to me was the focus on real-world applications through the many hands-on classes Scherer offers. It's great to have the opportunity to work with companies around the world both inside and outside of the classroom. I wanted to choose a program that would give me the opportunity to grow and hone my skills, but also keep me challenged.
What course, club, or activity have you enjoyed the most at Georgia Tech so far?
Our athletic committee hosts tailgates at every home football game which are a lot of fun. The energy on game day is contagious! It attracts everyone from alumni to family and friends. It's a great environment to deepen your bond with the class. It's not a bad thing that Georgia Tech wasn't that bad this year.
Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career to date:
A few years ago, I had to teach myself Excel VBA macros to automate accounting processes for a financial services company. I had no experience with accounting or VBA, so it was a really fun project to try. I was very proud of the final result. This saved the accounting team a lot of time during the month-end close and also taught them new skills.
Describe your biggest accomplishment as an MBA student thus far:
My biggest accomplishment as an MBA student thus far has been winning the Forté Fellowship and attending the Women's MBA Conference in Dallas, Texas in June. The lectures were thought-provoking and engaging, further increasing my excitement to join the MBA program. Forte is a special network of amazing women and I'm so grateful to be a part of it.
What is your favorite memory from your MBA so far?
Scherer hosts “hobby nights” where students host other students and introduce their favorite activities. They range from rock climbing to pizza making and more. My favorite memory is a hobby night held by three of her students titled “International Spice-Off.” We tasted authentic Thai and Indian food prepared by our classmates, and the spiciness of the food increased as the night progressed. It was such a great experience to taste all the dishes and learn a little more about my friends' culture.
What advice can you give potential applicants to help them gain admission to Georgia Tech Scheller's MBA program?
Be who you are. The greatest asset of the Scheller MBA program is the community we have. Let your passions shine through during the interview process, both personal and professional. That's what makes you unique!
