Covenant Kids Run Kickoff 2024 (WATE)
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon weekend began Sunday as runners began preparing for a number of races through downtown Knoxville.
“I'm not trying to break any records, I just want to finish,” said first-time marathon runner Hailey Rose.
The Fitness and Health Expo's Expo grounds attracted people of all ages to gather essentials in preparation for the marathon and learn about health and fitness.
“People change when they challenge themselves, and this is definitely a challenge for me. So I'm looking forward to pushing myself and seeing who's on the other side of this,” Rose said. Ta.
Many of the participants, like Rose, said it was their first time running a marathon.
“You could just do a marathon. People who run marathons are in really good shape, so I started training in November,” said first-time marathoner Whinney Nickels. . And to show my two sons that they can do whatever they want if they put their mind to it. ”
On Saturday, kids also had a chance to run and had some advice for those preparing for a marathon.
“Go slow at first, then speed up a little as you get closer to the finish line,” said Stella Cook as she completed the final mile of the Covenant Kids Run.
However, whether you're new or a veteran, everyone has their own reasons for signing up.
“I love that feeling when you’re out there, you’re in the zone, you’re focused, you’re competing against yourself,” Rose said.
“Community fellowship is so much fun, so I'm really excited just to run with my friends and enjoy the nice weather,” said Payne Trapmell, who plans to wear a banana suit and go to the race with friends. .
“The important thing is to do the best you can for yourself.'' Trent Marrow, who has run more than 200 marathons on seven continents, says, “We all have our own reasons, and each of us is different. They have a passion and a purpose behind lacing up their shoes every day.”
“As far as tomorrow's Knoxville Marathon, I think it's just a matter of doing the best we can to put one foot in front of the other. That's all we have to do to get one step closer to achieving that goal. That's why you cross the finish line,'' Trent Marrow said.
