Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training for Youth will be held on Friday, April 19th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Shabano Room of the Tuber Building in Salida (448 East First Street). MHFA is part of the National Council on Mental Welfare and makes mental health first aid as common as CPR by teaching participants how to identify, understand, and respond appropriately to mental health problems. We aim to make it a reality.
In this free youth MHFA training, you will learn how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use problems in children and youth ages 12 to 18.
Participants in this training will learn:
- Risk factors and warning signs for mental health and substance use problems.
- Information about depression, anxiety, trauma, mental illness, and substance use.
- A five-step action plan to help people with mental health and substance use issues.
- Access to evidence-based experts, peers, and self-help resources.
Registration for the course is required. Those interested can register by emailing Kirsten Love at KLove@ChaffeeCounty.org. This training is open to members of her community who are 18 years of age or older.
