POWAY, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Palomar Health plans to close its last remaining behavioral health department in Poway.
The 12-bed facility will permanently close on June 30, 2024. Some of the following services were available in this unit:
- Psychiatric intensive treatment and crisis stabilization
- Multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment
- Voluntary and involuntary treatment
- Individual and group psychotherapy
- Medication management
- Supportive group, individual, and environmental therapy
- Individual and group psychotherapy
- Recreational therapy, art therapy, music therapy, pet therapy
- Individualized treatment plan
- Comprehensive discharge planning and aftercare
- Joint Commission Certification
- Training site for student nurses and psychological trainees
- Family support and education
The patient will be transferred to Sharp Mesa Vista Hospital in Serra Mesa. As reported by the San Diego Tribune, Sharp Healthcare said the facility has the capacity to handle the expected influx of referrals after the Poway closure.
Health officials say the move will allow them to focus on building a new 120-bed psychiatric hospital in Escondido.
